2011 North American Outgames

International recording artists Sugarbeach and the Vancouver 2011 Outgames unveiled today the official theme song for the GLISA N.A. Vancouver 2011 Outgames on the Outgames website (, Reverbnation and itunes “We wanted to write a song that would capture the energy, spirit and importance of being an active participator in the Vancouver Outgames/Human Rights Conference and in one’s own life” says Marlee Walchuk, one half of the dynamic duo Sugarbeach.

The GLISA North America 2011 Vancouver Outgames are proud to announce the addition of international stars Ace of Base and Dragonette as co-headliners at the 2011 Vancouver Outgames Closing Party, Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Plaza of Nations.
Headlining act Ace of Base, are the hit artists behind the best-selling singles “All That She Wants”, “The Sign” and “Don’t Turn Around”. Ace of Base’s first album, “Happy Nation,” sold six million copies before being released in the U.S. as “The Sign,” where it sold a further 10 million copies. After that North American success, the album sold another eight million worldwide, making their first release one of the most successful debuts in history.
Dragonette - Renowned Canadian electro pop artists behind the hit track “Hello” have been taking the music world by storm, having sold out shows in Canada and throughout the world. The latest Dragonette single “Hello” has already garnered over 30 million YouTube views.
Also featured will be a special performance by the legendary Canadian DIVA herself, Carole Pope. Author, Genie and Juno award winner, and former lead singer for Rough Trade. With four 4 gold and 2 platinum records under her belt, Carole will be bringing her provocative and unique musical style to the Closing night stage.
The GLISA North America 2011 Vancouver Outgames are a celebration of sport, culture and human rights. The Closing party for the Outgames are a full day festival of LGBTQ culture with non-stop entertainment featuring concerts, DJ’s, drag shows, dance performances, medal presentations, beer garden, Breakfast of Champions and the Closing Ceremonies finale.
Come OUT and Play -The Closing Party is sure to be a vibrant spectacle - a full day of colourful characters celebrating the Outgames at Plaza of Nations. The beautiful outdoor waterfront setting includes a main stage and fully licensed site. Gates open at 11 am the festivities kick off with a Breakfast of Champions. The 24th Annual WESA Pageant
WESA's biggest special event of the season is almost upon us!  The 24th Annual WESA Pageant is about a month away and the dragalicious contestants are totally coming out of the woodwork, getting their fabulous threads together and practicing their lip-syncing talents!  It's going to be an amazing time and we look forward to seeing you at Five Sixty on Saturday, June 18th so mark your calendars.

$75,000 Grant to Outgames from the Province of BC

Here’s some good news from the Province of B.C. The Province is contributing $75,000 to support the sport component of the Vancouver 2011 North American Outgames, announced Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. “British Columbia is pleased to extend the same kind of hospitality to Outgames athletes and visitors as we so amply demonstrated during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games,” said Chong. “By supporting this event, we are furthering B.C.’s reputation as a world-class location for major sport events.” “The Organizing Committee for the 2011 Outgames is grateful for the support of the Province of British Columbia,” said John Boychuk, chair of the Organizing Committee. “This funding will allow us to leverage additional support from private sponsors and hold a world class event that highlights B.C. scenery, facilities and lifestyles.”
